A text colour should be ideally any dark colour on a dark background. There is no doubt about it. But what text colour and on what background is a question many people may have. The colours seen on your auditorium projector screen may not be as dark or as bright as you see it on your computer or phone screen, unless the auditorium projector is an expensive one. So there has to be a distinct contrast between the text and your background colour in your PPT Slides.
The other reason is that there are many other lights in the room or sunlight coming into the room and washout your screen slightly and may reduce the contrast between the background and the text. So take adequate precautions to close all doors and switchoff all lights that fall on your presentation screen to avoid this. Unless you need to use brightly coloured text, do not use. I normally use black text on white screen for day when presenting in an open spalce for audience. I use a dark background and often black or dark blue background and I use text colour as white or Light Beige for the best effect inside a closed space like a room or an auditorium.
Another PowerPoint Presentation Tip is to never use gradient colour in text unless the word you are putting up on screen is really large and is intented to be in decorative nature. And you should see that you do not use more than two or three colours in the gradient text as othewise the emphasis of the text will be lost.
