PowerPoint Tips - Changing an Image Background in PowerPoint Slide

This is a great PowerPoint Presentation Tip. Suppose you want to put a picture of a dog inside your own house. But you do not own a dog. And second situation where you own a dog but you want to take a picture of your dog inside your office. But dogs are not allowed inside your office. How can you now put the dog in the room in both these cases. It is very simple and here is how you do it. First take a picture of your office or a room in your house the way you want from which ever angle you want. When you click the photograph with your camera, try to remember how you held the camera in your hand. I mean at what angle to the floor was your camera pointing and at what height from the floor was the camera when you clicked the photograph. Now click the photograph of your own dog or find a dog say your neighbour's dog if you don't own a dog. Point to remember is that you keep the camera at the same height at which you clicked the photograph and point your camera at the same angle you clicked the office or a room at home. This will ensure that the dog and the room/office backgrounds will match and once you combine the two photographs they will look as if the dog was actually photographed in that room or office.
  

PowerPoint Tips - Removing Photograph Background in a PowerPoint Slide

Now open PowerPoint and go to a blank slide. Insert the photograph of the room first and stretch it to fill your entire slide without changing the aspect ratio or the length to breadth ratio.

Insert the photograph of the dog on top of it. Now we need to remove the background around the dog so that the dog starts looking as part of the same room or office.

Now click the dog picture to select the photograph whose background

To remove the background go to the PowerPoint Ribbon Menu and click on "Format" Tab.

Then, click on "Remove Background" tab you see on the left side of the drop down menu.

This opens another "Background Removal" dialog bax with a plus sign, a minus sign, a discard changes button and a keep changes tick mark.

Also the picture changes to Majanta colour in the areas which PowerPoint software detects as background.

Now click on the Plus button on top left and start drawing lines with your mouse on all those areas you want to keep if some areas have been given Majanta colour as background by default PowerPoint detection algorithm.

In case the PowerPoint has left out some areas you want to remove then click the Minus button on top left and draw lines to the areas you want to additionally remove.

If you want to start all over then click on Discard All Changes Button on top. But if you want to finalise and remove the background now, just click the Tick mark to Keep all Changes on top. And the background is removed. That is all.

The written part may look to have many steps. But once or twice you do it, and you will realise that it just 2 to 5 mouse clicks and it is done. Amazingly, PowerPoint works like a Photo Editing Software and does the background removal better than most Photo Editors.

Now adjust the size of the dog to match its size with respect to the room size. Also adjust the position of the dog on the slide to make it look that the dog actually was photographed in that room or office.

You have easily put the dog in the room by combining two photographs by cleverly removing the background of one photograph. It is that simple. Try it a few times and you will become an expert.
